Bling Your Thing Workshop at PDXWLF 2026
Looking to host a workshop for an event or party?
Becca Priddy has been teaching Bling Your Thing Workshops for Portland Winter Light Festival since 2017. As an experienced science educator and artist, she has been teaching ages 3-99 about basic circuitry and soldering. She offers multiple workshops for ages 10+. Workshops are perfect for small parties and events. Shiny Design Lab does not currently have its own dedicated workshop workspace, so workshops are held at your own location or a rental location. Becca resides in Portland, OR and is able to travel to host workshops elsewhere between late June and early August.
Soldering WOrkshop:
Workshop length: 2 hours
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! In this workshop you will learn how to solder, then assemble a basic circuit board with an LED, switch, and battery holder, then turn it into a pin or keychain. This workshop is designed for ages 10+ due to the high temperature of the soldering irons and the coin cell batteries that power the project. (youth age 10-16 must have a guardian present). Optional custom PCB made for your event, or you can solder a Shiny Design Lab PCB. Workshops with custom PCBs requests require 5 week lead time for design, submission, and shipping from the manufacture. PCBs are ordered locally from OshPark in Portland, OR. This workshop is designed for groups of 15 or less and runs for 2 hours.
LED Pendant WOrkshop:
Workshop length: 45 minutes
Not quite ready for soldering? This workshop covers the basics of circuitry without any hot tools! You’ll learn to assemble a small pendant made from laser cut acrylic, that illuminates with an LED powered by a coin cell battery. This project was inspired by Geek Mom Projects edge lit pendant. This workshop can be designed for groups of 20 people with direct instruction, or up to 100 people as a DIY kit with support available. Custom pendants can be designed for your event.
